Arteriosclerosis and its development
Arteriosclerosis is a widespread vascular disease in which the arteries become narrowed or hardened due to deposits. As it occurs throughout the entire organism, different parts of the body can be affected, for example the legs, arms or carotid artery. Although this problem does not initially cause any symptoms, it is considered to be the main cause of dangerous cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks, PAD or strokes. Early diagnosis is therefore of crucial importance.
Treatment methods for arteriosclerosis
The first priority is to treat the risk factors and triggers of arteriosclerosis. In severe cases, interventional or surgical treatment is essential. We treat the deposits using catheters and widen the vessels by means of angioplasty. This involves placing a balloon in the narrowed area, which is then inflated to widen the constriction. If this treatment does not achieve the desired effect, it may be necessary to insert a stent. Alternatively, constrictions can also be treated using a rotary drill, peeling or fragmentation.
