Thrombosis and its development
When a blood clot forms in a blood vessel, this is known as a thrombosis. This most frequently occurs in the leg veins. You can recognise it by swelling, severe pain and a red or bluish discolouration of the skin. If you develop these symptoms, please seek medical treatment immediately. If the problem is not yet acute, we will be happy to advise you on how you can prevent this clinical picture.
Treatment methods for thrombosis
Thrombosis prophylaxis
There are various risk factors that can lead to thrombosis. If you are predisposed, we will work with you to analyse possible medication and non-medication measures for prevention. The former includes the administration of blood thinners such as heparin, while the latter is primarily a matter of adapting your lifestyle, e.g. through regular exercise and improving your fluid intake.
First aid for acute venous thrombosis
In the case of deep vein thrombosis, the affected limbs should first be elevated and compression stockings prescribed. Blood-thinning medication is then administered to break down the blood clot or to stimulate the body's own degradation mechanisms to take over. Medical intervention to remove a venous thrombosis is rarely necessary, for example in the case of a thrombosis in the pelvic veins.
