Spider veins and their development

Dilated skin veins that are clearly visible to the naked eye are not uncommon. These so-called spider veins can appear in various places, but they are most common on the legs. They are not always a purely aesthetic problem; they can also be an expression of an underlying vein problem.

Treatment methods for spider veins

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a classic method for removing spider veins. A sclerosing agent is injected into the vein with a fine needle. This leads to the displacement of the blood and discolouration of the affected skin area. The body then converts the treated vein into connective tissue, which is broken down over the following weeks.

Laser/light treatment

Certain types of laser such as the Nd: Yag laser or IPL technology can also be used to remove spider veins, although this is usually less effective on the legs than sclerotherapy. Here, pulses of light heat the vessels in a targeted manner, thereby destroying the damaged tissue. We use these procedures as an alternative to sclerotherapy.

IPL technology is not only used for permanent hair removal, but can also remove unwanted spots on the skin in addition to treating spider veins.
